Highlights

  • The magnificent architecture of old Yangon
  • Experiencing local life in Dala village
  • Colourful & bustling Bogyoke Market
  • Sacred & shimmering Shwedagon Pagoda

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to the city centre by taxi, where we start with a walking tour to Yangon's old quarter, built during the British colonial era where many charming historical buildings still remain in tact.

During our stroll through bustling market streets full of merchants and food stalls, we make a stop for a tea and snack in the fashion of locals and enjoy the sights and sounds of Yangon.

After passing one of Asia's architectural landmarks, the elegant Strand Hotel we proceed to Pansondan Jetty and cross Yangon river to Dala village where you can experience a striking contrast to Yangon city with Dala's limited urban development and calm village feel. Sit back and relax on a tour by trishaw, a three-wheeled bicycle taxi that weaves through small lanes, market streets and friendly village neighbourhoods. We observe the daily activities of Burmese locals and get a feel for the authentic rural lifestyle of Myanmar. We make a stop in a pagoda and finish the trishaw tour with local refreshments and people watching by the jetty before making our way back to Yangon.

Short taxi drive away we take a lunch break at the Monsoon Restaurant located in a charming heritage building. Next door to Monsoon you can visit the volunteer run Pomelo store, should you wish, for browsing innovative souvenirs produced by various charity groups.

In the afternoon we continue to Mahabandoola Park and Sule Pagoda and walk through the Indian quarter of Yangon and the Bogyoke (Scott's) Market, where hundreds of gemstone, handicrafts, art, clothes and food stores are tucked in a maze of colour. (Market is closed on Mondays and public holidays.)

We complete the day with a visit to one of the world's most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda, a magnificent gold covered bell dome structure that dominates the city's skyline. Legends state that the sacred hairs of the Buddha are enshrined here. The Shwedagon is an iconic symbol of the country, a sight not to be missed.
