NORTHERN - SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA Ethiopia has old, fascinating history, and is home to many diverse colorful cultures. In the northern part of this tour you will experience ancient monasteries, Castles, rock-hewn churches, Steles and Ethiopia’s magnificent natural beauty. The second part of the program is a cultural tour for visiting the people in the Southern Omo Valley. This adventure takes you on a cultural high, exploring some of the most remote areas of Ethiopia where some of the most colorful and beautiful tribes of the world live. The Mursi, with their decorative lip plates, the Hamer in their amazing hair decorations, the Ari, the Bena and several other tribes are covered on this trip.

Tour Detail

Day 1- Arrival Addis Ababa

Up on arrival at Bole international air port and met by your representatives and transfer to hotel. The whole day take rest. In the afternoon, you will have leisure and shopping time. In the evening farewell traditional dinner in one of the best restaurant in Addis followed by folkloric dance of different Ethiopian nations. Overnight Sheraton Addis Hotel

Day 2- City Tour of Addis

After breakfast, city tour of Addis, Which includes; National Museum, the home of the famous complete hominid fossil remain of Lucy dates 3.2 million years back, Mount Entoto, panoramic view point at the highest peak in Addis with an altitude of 3200 meter above sea level, Trinity Cathedral, a beautiful church with a baroque style of European architecture unique to both Ethiopia and Africa, Ethnographic Museum and Merkato (the largest open air market in Africa). Day 3- Addis- Bahirdar

Morning, transfer to airport to fly to Bahirdar. After check-in to hotel journey by sympathetic African plains eventually leads to the mighty Blue Nile fall commonly known as “Tis Isat” (water that smokes). After hiking the cataracts drive back to Bahirdar. After lunch boat rides on Lake Tana. On Lake Tana time has still stood and dominated by an archaic, dating from early Christian mysticism and the religious interpretations of African art are characterized by the Ethiopian Christianity, and the world’s Old Testament is still practiced. Visit Azua-Mariam and Ura-kidaneMihret monasteries which are rich in icon painting. Overnight in Grand Resort hotel

Day 4- Bahirdar- Gondar

After breakfast, drive to Gondar, which was one of the hidden cities of the foreign trade area in the 17th century AD. Gondar is the site of ancient castle building palaces of different emperors constructed in the European middle age architectural style. After check-in to hotel visit the curious symbiosis of Ethiopian and Portuguese architectural representation of the Royal Enclosure which is also known as” the Camelot of Africa”, the iconic church of Debre Birehan selassie, bath of king Fasilledes which still in use for the colorful celebration of Ethiopian epiphany (Timket). Day 5 - Gondar- Simien Mountains Park- Gondar

After breakfast, drive to Semen mountains national park which is the most marvelous of all Abyssinian landscapes. Semen Mountain National Park constitutes many summits above 4000masl and culminates at Ras Dashen, the highest peak in Ethiopian and it is the home of the endemics gelada baboon, Ethiopian wolf and Walya ibex. After visit drives back to Gonder and overnight in AG hotel

Day 6- Gonder- Axum

After breakfast, transfer in to airport to fly to the ancient town of Axum. after check-in to hotel visit The archaeological and historical attractions in Axum; which include, The Archaeological Museum, Monolithic Steles, The Tombs of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskal, and the legendary Bath of the Queen of Sheba, and the ruins of ancient palace of Queen Sheba. You also visit the new and the old Cathedral of St Mary of Zion and the sanctuary that houses the original Arc of the covenant. The 16th Century Cathedral of St Mary of Zion was probably built on an earlier 4th century church, and is the holiest church in Ethiopia. In its sanctuary is said to rest the original Ark of the Covenant. Overnight in Consular hotel

Day 7- Axum- Lalibela

Morning, transfer in to airport to fly to the legendary and the framed of Ascetic Mountain town of Lalibela. After check-in to hotel, full day visits the 12th c. Rock-Hewn Churches; Lalibela is famous for its rock hewn churches and these brilliant feats of engineering and architecture are often referred to as the 8th wonder of the World. There are many rock churches in Lalibela some hidden in enormous caves. Overnight will be in Top 12 hotel

Day 8- Lalibela

On this day visit the picturesque, impressive landscape of the Lalibela surrounds and Nakutoleab Rock Hewn church/Asheton Mariam. Day 9- Lalibela- Addis then Drive to Lake Awassa

Morning, transfer in to airport to fly back to Addis Ababa. Then drive to Lake Awassa, which is surrounded by mountains and populated by countless species of birds. Awasa is one of the largest cities in southern Ethiopia but manages to retain an easy-going feel, making it a pleasant place to spend some time. There is a bustling central market as well as a separate fish market. On the way you will have a chance to visit the Rift Valley Lakes. Overnight Haile resort

DAY 10- Awassa -Arbaminch

In the morning, drive to Arba Minch via Wolayta Sodo En route visit the Dorze village, high in the mountains north of Arba Minch. The Dorze are well known as master weavers and live in interesting igloo-shaped houses. Overnight Paradise Lodge

 

Day 11:  Visit Doze Village and Boat trip on Lake Chamo

After breakfast boat trip on Lake Chamo. Boat trip on Lake Chamo is along the best anywhere in Ethiopia. One can spot many Hippos and the world\'s most spectacular concentrations of Giant Crocodiles. The water birds are great the scenery is truly unforgettable. Then after drive to Konso along impressive land terracing Overnight Kanta resort


 


Day 12: Konso, Mursi, Jinka

After breakfast leave Konso and drive to the Mursi village to visit and appreciate the very attractive culture of the Mursi tribe. They are renowned for the strange custom followed by their women who, on reaching maturity, have their lower lips slit and circular clay discs inserted.After this visit Mago National park, which is reach in natural habitats and different endemic birds and mammals. Then after drive back to Jinka.  Overnight Jinka Resort.

 


Day 13: Jinka-Turmi – Murulle - Turmi

After breakfast drive to Turmi, is your base as you explore the different regions and to meet the different tribes who live a life of their own. This day you drive towards the Murulle area. Murile Murile (also spelled Muelle and Murli) lies on the banks of the Omo River, and is a popular base for exploring what is essentially a rugged area. There is a fair amount of wildlife in the area, and a good chance of seeing some form of antelope and possibly raptors overhead. The two main tribes who live in the area are the Karo and the Hamer, both of whom practice scarification and have elaborate hairstyles. The Karo ethnic groups are experts in body painting, using clays and locally available vegetable pigments to trace fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs. These designs have no special symbolic significance but are created purely for fun and aesthetic effect, each artist vying to outdo his fellows. Karo men also sculpt and shave their hair into extravagant shapes, with special ochre "caps" of hair usually containing several ostrich feathers. Overnight Buska Lodge.

 

Day 14: Turmi - Omorate - Turmi 

Today you visit the Geleb tribes, crossing the Omo River by boat. The people of Geleb have their own distinctive dress and decoration and villages with interesting architecture. In the afternoon we drive back to Turmi and spend the night camping. The Geleb Covering a large territory, the Geleb live along the western banks of the Omo River, having been forced out of the Turkana region by conflict in the 18th century. Originally nomadic pastoralists, the more fertile surroundings of the Omo River has caused them to put down more permanent roots based around fishing and agriculture. The Geleb live in small huts that befit their nomadic origins, as they could be easily and quickly dismantled. Overnight Buska Lodge


 

Day 15: Drive to Arba Minch

 Drive back to Arba Minch: on the way visit the Cushitic speaking Arbore people and their villages. The Abore people adorn themselves with beads and aluminum jewelry. Overnight Paradise Lodge

 

Day 16- Arba Minch -Addis- Departure

Morning, drive back to Addis. En route visit Tiya Steele, one of the World Heritage site and Melika Kunture. Then transfer to airport to fly back to home, where the tour ends.
