Tour Detail

When you rent a bike from MTB*RT we include an experienced guide that will guide you through a selection of trails in Tai Lam Country Park which features the most popular trails in Hong Kong. Tai Lam Country Park is the largest riding area in Hong Kong, with almost 27 km of trails open to mountain biking and 25 km of country park roads.

There are two trails to choose from:

RESERVOIR FAMILY, CROSS COUNTRY ROUTE
(Beginner to intermediate) - Tai Lam Reservoir Loop - Entire loop +-10-23 km's

THE LOOP AROUND TAI LAM RESERVOIR IS A SCENIC TRAIL WHICH IS PLEASANT TO RIDE? IT'S A PLACE THAT ALL LEVELS OF RIDERS CAN ENJOY. THE NORTHERN PART OF THE LOOP IS A GRAVEL TRAIL; THE OTHER SIDE IS A SCENIC COUNTRY PARK ROAD.
The reservoir's northern and western side are gravel trail. This trail is mostly flat and follows the reservoir's shoreline. There are a few difficulties but the trail is easy by HK's standards. You'll find many sharp corners with loose surfaces, and a few bumps and steps.
The western side of the trail goes over a series of small hills. You'll find some steps and rutted areas, where hike a biking is necessary.
The Southern side is a Country Park road starting at the main reservoir's dam. This road is scenic and pleasant to ride counter clockwise.
There are bail out routes along the ride should fatigue get the better of you.

DOWNHILL MORE CHALLENGING ROUTE
(Intermediate to advanced) - Tai Mo Shan, Ho Pui Downhill +-15klm's

THE MOST TECHNICAL RIDE HONG KONG HAS TO OFFER, THIS THRILLING DOWNHILL HAS IT ALL. A FAST FOLLOWING TRAIL WITH NASTY DROPS TO ROCK GARDENS & KILLER TECHNICAL SECTIONS.
From the trail head there is a slight climb before it’s all downhill. The trail is well manicured and fast, towards the mid of the trail you hit a very challenging section. Most people will bike hike this section.
For the next 4k’s the trail meanders through the forest. You will cross two streams all the time losing elevation. It's a beautiful section where you can ride flat out. Before getting to Ho Pui reservoir downhill a clearing on your right will let you see Yuen Long valley and into Shenzhen if the weather is clear.
The start of the 2km downhill is steep and gnarly to begin with but soon levels out to a more manageable ride. At the bottom the last drop is daunting but rideable, this will bring you out to the reservoir, look to your right to see where the trail continues. This leads to the final bamboo forest section which is more technically challenging but extremely enjoyable. The trail ends at the concrete road which we will ride out and back to Kam Sheung Road MTR Station.

We are open 7 Days a week from 6:00am to 6:00pm for bookings.
