Tour Detail

Lake Barrine is a popular freshwater lake that is surrounded by World Heritage National Park. Lake Barrine was formed when a large volcano erupted over 17000 years ago, leaving a huge open crater that filled up with water to create the lake that tourists and locals alike visit each year to wildlife spotting, picnics and of course bushwalking and hiking around the volcano craters rim.

The Lake Barrine Tea House has also been a big draw card for their fresh home made scones jam and cream and other home made goodies that you can enjoy whilst you are looking out over the Crater Lake.  Make sure to visit the nearby Lake Eacham for a refreshing swim in the cyrstal clear waters if you would like to cool off after exploring the Crater Lakes.

It takes about 1 hour before arriving at your second destination, the Atherton Tablelands. On the way, you will see the fascinating natural scenery. The landscape is like a beautiful pastoral painting, puffy white clouds against endless blue skies with cattle across the vast prairie and endless horizon.

You will arrive at Herberton Historical Village at around 1:30pm. It has received numerous awards and it’s recognized as Queensland’s most important open air museum as it maintains the original building bricks and historical relic from 19 centuries. The Herberton Historic Village collection currently features over 50 original out house buildings with intact interior displays, original machinery and vehicles, plus thousands of antique items and period memorabilia.

A guided tour has been arranged on the day. You will have 2-hours’ free time to discover the history and enjoy your afternoon tea at the Bakerville Tearooms.

About 4pm, arrive at Granite Gorge Nature Park. This privately owned nature park (12km from Mareeba) occupies an alien landscape of humungous granite boulders, caves and turtle-inhabited swimming holes. There's wildlife galore, including possums, dingoes and quolls; the park's especially famous for the friendly rock wallabies that hop along the boulders. Granite Gorge is their natural habitat and this is the only place where you can feed the wallabies in the wild so not surprisingly, they are the first thing that most people go looking for when they arrive at the park.

You will be spending about 1 hour at the Granite Gorge Nature Park.

Depart from Granite Gorge Nature Park at 5pm. Travel to Cairns Central via Kuranda Range. Arrival time is about 6pm.
