 Day 1 – Arrival

Meeting with the ARGO Voyage Georgia’s representative at Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport.

Transfer to the 4* hotel in the center of Tbilisi.

 

-       Check in. Time for rest or Tbilisi city tour if possible.

Day  2    Jvari, Uplistsikhe,  Mtskheta

Breakfast in hotel.

- 10:30 Departure to excursion.

·      Drive to Mtskheta - one of the oldest cities of the country of Georgia. Due to its historical significance and numerous ancient monuments, the “Historical Monuments of Mtskheta” with the monastery of  Jvari  became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Mtskheta – the former capital of Iberia.

·      Uplistsikhe is an ancient rock-hewn town which played a significant role in Georgian history over a period of approximately 3000 years.

·      Time for dinner  - “Yago Marani” with the national cuisine. (not incl.)

Return to Tbilisi.

Free evening.

Overnight.

Travel itinerary:

Distance - Jvari – Uplistsikhe – Mtskheta  – Tbilisi – 220 km

Time – from 5 to 7 hours

 

 

Day 3   Kakheti - Signaghi, Tsinandali, Telavi

Breakfast in hotel.

10:00 - Departure to the east part of Georga, wine region Kakheti.  

·      Signaghi – The city which dates back to XVII century. The town was recently restored and is charming and picturesque. Impresses with the views of the river Alazani’s plain.

·      Visit the local museum dedicated to the Georgian painter  Niko Pirosmani whose works were recognized even in Paris in XX century.

Time for diner / wine tasting (not incl.)

·      Later we visit the house museum of Alexander Chavchavadze in Tsinandali. This old, beautiful, wooden villa with the famous huge Park has been the cultural, intellectual and political center in the nineteenth century. (1835 year)

Return to Tbilisi.

Day 4 – Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Prometheus Cave, Sataplia Cave

09:30 Departure from Tbilisi.

Transfer to the 4* hotel in the center of Kutaisi.

  • Kutaisi, the capital of Imereti, is Georgia’s second largest city after Tbilisi. Elegant, tree lined streets with 19th century houses stretching down to the banks of the Rioni River, along with several attractive parks, make Kutaisi a very beautiful place to stroll around and take in the many sights.
  • Visit the Prometheus Cave – one of Georgia’s natural wonders and one of the largest in the world and has many underground rivers. It was discovered in 1984. Four distinct layers were formed during different stages of the Earth’s development and tourists are able to journey through the historic territory by foot or in boats. Prometheus Cave is one of the most popular international tourist caves, and includes various types of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers, and lakes.
  • Time for dinner in restaurant Prometheus (not incl.)
  • Sataplia is a rather small cave located in Tskaltubo, Georgia. It is famous for fine speleothems and the dinosaur footprints nearby. The tour enters the through-cave on one hillside, crosses the hill underground and then goes back on the surface past the dinosaur footprints. The cave is named after Mt. Sataplia (494m), an extinct volcano, which is now the Nature Preserve. The preserve was intended to protect the five karst caves of the area and the dinosaur footprints. At the moment there are 200 footprints known, found in two different layers of the Cretaceous limestone. The 30cm long footprints of the lower layer belong to an unknown predator, the 48cm long footprints of the upper layer to an Ornitopod herbivore.

Day 5 – Rabati, Akhaltsikhe, Vardzia

10:00 Departure from Kutaisi to Akhaltskhe.

Transfer to the 4* hotel in Rabat.

Check in hotel. 30 min rest.

Departure to ecxursion.

  • Rabati Castle – medieval castle complex in Akhaltsikhe. The old stone Rabati Fortress, the main sight of the Akhaltsikhe town, is standing on the small hill on the very shores of the Potskhovi river. Its name comes from Arabic meaning “fortified place”. It is located on the western suburbs and can be seen practically from anywhere in the city. This military building erected in the 13th century had witnessed a lot over the centuries. 

Time for diner. Authentic, local cuisine.

  • Visit Vardzia – Medieval Cave City, hew into the side of the rocks above a river. It is located in a hanging valley in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains. Vardzia is simply amazing and breathtaking, with unusual location. This city once used to have 30,000 inhabitants  – now it’s a monastery where several monks live. Most of the city museum is open to the visitors and you can visit the caves and the main cave church with well-preserved frescoes, including the fresco of Queen Tamar and his father King George III) from the 12th century. It involves some walking on the steps, in the dark tunnels too.

Transfer back to Akhaltsikhe, hotel in Rabati.

Day 6 – Borjomi, Tbilisi /Departure

10:00 Departure from Akhaltsikhe to Borjomi.

Transfer to the Borjomi Park.

  • Borjomi’s mineral water park, dating back to 1850, occupies a narrow, wooded valley. To find it, cross the little Borjomula River just east of Borjomi Park train station, turn right along 9 Aprili and go 600m. The original warm mineral spring, named Ekaterina's Spring, sits beneath a pavilion straight ahead of the park entrance (you can fill bottles from it). 

Transfer to the Tbilisi International Airport.
Travel itinerary:
