Brief

Day 1: Fly to Banjul. Coastal hotel, The Gambia Day 2: Kaolack, Senegal Day 3: ST. Louis, Senegal Days 4 & 5: Djoudj, Senegal Days 6 & 7: Richard Toll, Senegal Day 8: ST. Louis, Senegal Day 9: Kaolack, Senegal Day 10: Farafenni, The Gambia Days 11 & 12: Tendaba Camp, The Gambia Day 13: Coastal hotel, The Gambia Day 14: Return flight

Tour Detail

Day One: You will be collected from the airport and taken to your hotel, about a 30-minute drive away. After settling in, the rest of the day will be spent becoming familiar with some of the bird life, visiting Kotu Creek and other areas close to your hotel.

Day Two: You will be picked up at 7.30 to drive to Banjul for the ferry crossing to Barra on the North Bank, and then onwards into Senegal. Before our evening arrival at Kaolack we will stop to look for birds such as Savile’s, Black-bellied and White-bellied Bustards, Little Buttonquail and Common Quail.

Day Three: After an early breakfast we will head off to St. Louis, stopping en route at places like Gossas for Blue-naped Mousebird and Eurasian Griffon Vulture; and Touba, Mbake and Darou Mousti for Lappet-faced Vulture and Desert Cisticola.

Day Four: Today we move on to Djoudj National Park for two nights. Getting there at about lunchtime we will then spend the afternoon exploring the local area for its desert bird life.

Day Five: After breakfast we will head off on a morning tour into the park, looking for birds such as Arabian and Denham Bustards, Short-toed Lark, Cricket Warbler and Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse. After lunch we shall take a boat trip to look for more birds, like River Prinia, Zebra Waxbill and many more.

Day Six: An early start today for the journey to Richard Toll, where we will spend the next two nights. With a few stops on the way, we will arrive in early afternoon and spend the rest of the day exploring the local area.

Day Seven: The day will be spent in the local area looking for birds such as Little Grey Woodpecker, Sennar Penduline Tit, Black Scrub-robin, Yellow-bellied Eremomela and Southern Grey Shrike.

Day Eight: Today we make the return journey to St. Louis, with various birding stops en route.

Day Nine: An early start for the journey back to Kaolack, stopping on the way to find any of the birds we may have missed before. Arriving at Kaolack earlier than last time, we will take a trip to Jafar Island where many African Swallow-tailed Kites and Lesser Kestrels roost.

Day Ten: Heading back into The Gambia, we travel to Farafenni to stay at Eddie’s Lodge for one night.

Day Eleven: Before crossing the River Gambia we will travel east to the Kaur Wetlands and Wassu in search of Egyptian Plover, Northern Carmine Bee-eater and other species. We will then return to Farafenni, moving on to Bamba Tenda for the crossing to Yelli Tenda on the South Bank. From here we travel through Soma and on to Tendaba Camp for two nights.

Day Twelve: Today we will venture deep into Kiang West National Park, exploring for most of the day and enjoying a picnic lunch. Returning to Tendaba late in the afternoon, we will then take a boat trip across the river into Bao Bolong Wetland Reserve, travelling along Tunku and Kissi Bolongs. Here we will see many species including Mouse-brown Sunbird, White-backed Night-heron, African Finfoot, African Blue Flycatcher and Goliath Heron.

Day Thirteen: Travelling west we will head to the coast, stopping en route at a variety of great birding spots.

Day Fourteen: Your remaining time will be spent relaxing or exploring the area around your hotel before being transported to the airport.

Guests can get full refunds at any time of cancellation prior to the actual date of the tour if that cancellation is due to a Force Major reason. Force Major reasons include but are not limited to war, civil insurrection, strikes, volcanoes, extreme weather, earthquake, and natural disasters.
