DEPARTURE: 0530
DURATION: 2 DAYS/1 NIGHT

DAY 1
Paracas is located in the south of Peru, in the vicinity of Ica. The Paracas culture was an Andean society with an extensive knowledge of irrigation and water management. They were characterized by their big, underground necropolis, where bodies were preserved as mummies in luxurious cloths and mantles. Their knowledge of medicine was advanced, as they demonstrated the remains of surgical operation to the brain. Their textile art is considered as the best of all ancient cultures.

The Bellestas Islands is a vibrant and colorful wildlife sanctuary that is filled with wild birds and mammals. Such as sea lions, fur seals, and endangered Humboldt penguins. In additional to the animals name above, a wide range of seabirds also calls these rocky islands home. On this tour you may see and hear red-footed Guanay cormorants, pelicans, boobies, and other types of birds. You will come face to face with these animals in their natural habitat. On rare occasions, it is even possible to see dolphins and whales also.

During this tour you can observe a mysterious geoglyph, similar to the Nazca Lines that was carved into the face of a cliff. This symbol is called The Candelabra our local guide will explain the most important theories concerning this drawing. It is not allowed to land on the island, so you will remain in the boat for the duration of the tour.

After visiting the Ballestas Islands we will explore Paracas National Reserve, where you will see some beautiful beaches. The Paracas National Park is one of two Protected Natural Areas that preserves samples of Peru’s coastal marine ecosystems. The Park contains land, part of Paracas desert, islands, and the sea. Besides protecting great biological diversity, the Park also contains various archeological sites from the Paracas pre-Inka culture. Which is now a large part of the Reserve. The park stretches over 827,800 acres, thirty five percent of which comprises dry land and islands, and sixty five percent of which is sea. There are impressive rock formations such as the Cathedral, while it was affected in 2007 by the earthquake in August of 2007, still offers a unique geological landscape. The Reserve National Park offers a good range of restaurants and natural beauty of the beaches, such as Lagunillas, Mendieta, and La Mina. This is a great place to enjoy the view, relax, and enjoy the fresh seafood. (Food and drinks are not included). After a well-deserved lunch your adventure continues to Huacachina, a desert oasis in the south of Peru. Huacachina is small lagoon surrounded by palm trees and gigantic sand dunes, similar to those in the Sahara Desert in Africa. Huacachina is well known for its extraordinary and adventurous dune buggy and sandboarding tours. The tour dune buggy tour is both thrilling and beautiful, it takes you at high speeds deep into the desert to see the huge sand dunes on the coast. This mountains of sands are beautiful and surreal. The 4-wheel-drive dune buggy is driven by a professional driver and visitors’ are not permitted to drive a dune buggy. The other half of the tour is a chance to try the adventure of sandboarding. This is similar to snowboarding, but instead of snow you will boarding on the fine grained sand of the desert. Despite the frequent earthquake in the Nazca area still exist over 30 underground channels, which are currently use by farmers in the valley. The farmers grow mainly cotton, corn, beans, butter beans, and potatoes, as well as a variety of fruits. Your local guide will give you an introduction of the archaeological site its history and the ingenuity of the ancient inhabitants’ survival. We will continue our tour to Chauchilla Cemetery, the only archaeology site in Peru n which ancient mommies are seen in their original graves; along with ancient artifacts, dating back to 1000 AD. For many years Chauchilla Cemetery was looted by treasure hunters, who took away all the treasures the mommies kept in their tombs for centuries. Grave robbers just left behind the corpses, skulls, and bones, which can be seen today all over the ground. Also visitors can see several tombs centuries’ old, as well as long human hair, ceramic fragments and others remains scattered on the desert surface. To finish off the tour we will give time for shopping Nazca ceramics or other souvenirs.

After touring the Chauchilla Cemetery we will transfer to airdrome of Nazca to fly over the Nazca drawings. Prior to the flight you will watch a video film about the Nazca Lines that will allow you to get a better understanding of the archaeological zone. The documentary last about 40 minutes, it gives you detail information about the Nazca culture and the figures you will see from the air. After the video you will board a small Cessna single aircraft (Station air, Sky hawk, or Skyline type). These aircrafts have spacious room for 5 passengers each with a window seat.
