A Walk Along the Spree River
Berlin- Berlin- Germany
2 Hours
10 Persons
English/German
{{ goConfig.showPrice(currency + lowestPrice, lang)}}
Brief

This exciting walking tour takes the Berlin visitor along one of Berlin's main waterways, the River Spree, through the Government District. Not only will this tour familiarize people with a different, wholly modern, side of Berlin, it is also packed with interesting sights and buildings, such as,  for instance, the Chancellery as well as Bellevue Palace.

Tour Detail

Meeting Point is in front of the ARD Capital Studios on Wilhelmstrasse 67a. From there, we work our way along the river, by passing a slew of governmental buildings (Paul Löbe Building, Marie-Elisabeth Lüders Building, etc.), all of which have been erected following reunification.

As the River Spree used to divide the two Berlins at that particular part of town, the visitor will also get to see those spots where people unsuccessfully tried to flee the GDR to make their way into the West. Today, a number of crosses commemorate those killed by the GDR's totalitarian regime.

Leaving the Parliamentary buildings behind and walking underneath Santiago Callatrava's Crown Prince Bridge, we're opposite the Ministry for Education and Research with the about-to-open House of the Future right next to it. The House of the Future, once completed, is meant to showcase German engineering and know-how in a spectacular building built specifically for that purpose.

Next is the Central Station, not only Germany's largest railway stations but also one of the largest in Europe, followed by the Ministry of the Interior and the House of World Cultures.

Eventually, we'll reach Bellevue Palace where the German President resides. Crossing the Martin Luther bridge we'll pass "The Serpent", an immense building, initially built to house Member of Parliament after their move from Bonn to Berlin.

Finally, we're at the Zollpackhof, one of Berlin's prettiest beer gardens,  from which the visitor can enjoy a clear and direct view of Miss Merkel's Chancellery. The tour concludes there with the option to go for a drink (lunch, coffee, beer, etc.).
