Situated at 4,167m at its summit, Jbel Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa, towering over the valleys in the Parc National de Toubkal. This accent of Toubkal trek is for the faint of heart, but well worth the effort to experience the majesty of this jewel of Morocco. If your time in Morocco is short, the splendor of Toubkal is not to be missed. With this slightly longer itinerary you have the ability to enjoy the vast differences in Moroccan culture from the bustling, mysterious streets of Marrakech to the authentic rural Berber lifestyle.

Day 1 Marrakech –Toubkal Refuge

Approximately 4-5 hours walking, 1h30 hours driving

Elevation: 3200m

Travel from Marrakech to Imlil, a small village situated 1,450m at the base of Toubkal. In Imlil werondevu with our muleteer team, and begin our journey through the Mizane Valley. Our path will take us through the village of Aremd and onto the village of SidiChamharouch where the Shrine of Chamarouch, a not-to-be-missed monument which pre-dates the introduction of Islam into Morocco, is located. From Chamarouch our trail begins to climb at a steeper incline toward our final destination of the Toukbal Refuge. End your day with some much deservedrelaxing, and enjoy the spectacular views of Jbel Toubkal.

Day 2Jbel Toubkal

Approximately 5-6 hours walking

Elevation: 4167m

An early breakfast this morning before we set out on toward our accent of Jbel Toubkal will have us walking before first light. The beautiful panoramic views that await you at the top are well worth the effort that reaching the summit will take. Enjoy the well-deserved victory as we break at the top to relax, enjoy and soak in the morning’s effort. Our decent will be along the South Cirque of Toubkal, back toward the Toubkal Refuge, where we will enjoy lunch. The late afternoon will be yours to enjoy, relaxing and reminiscing, or exploring the refuge further.

 

Day 3Jbel Toubkal Refuge - Marrakech

Approximately 4-5 hours walking

Elevation: 3200m

Our decent from the Toubkal Refuge will take us back down the winding trails of the Assif Valley, through the village of SidiChamharouch, toward the village of Aroumd (Arend). Aroumd is situated in one of the most fertile valleys of the Toubkal region, which lends itself perfectly to ample farming. As we wander through this lush region, discover Berber farm life. Terraced fields of walnuts, figs, date palms, cherries and apples mark this unique region of the High Atlas. Then from Aroumd, we complete our decent into Imlil via the mule trail that overlooks the meandering river. After a rest we willboard the coach bus to transfer back to Marrakech.
